Men’s Health
Looking after your health shouldn’t be something you put off. At The Doctors Glendale, our GPs offer dedicated men’s health consultations in a straightforward, comfortable setting for men of all ages across Glendale, Cardiff, Edgeworth, and the surrounding suburbs.
We provide comprehensive health assessments covering heart health, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes risk, prostate screening, testosterone levels, sexual health, and mental wellbeing. Our doctors take the time to listen and work with you on practical health goals, whether that’s managing weight, improving sleep, or addressing a specific concern.
Early detection saves lives. We recommend regular health checks for all men, particularly those over 45 or with a family history of chronic disease. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men should consider annual checks from age 35. Bulk billing is available for eligible patients.
Women’s Health
The Doctors Glendale provides dedicated women’s health care in a comfortable and private setting. Our GPs support women through every life stage, from puberty and contraception through to pregnancy, perimenopause, and post-menopausal health.
Services include cervical screening tests (previously known as Pap smears), breast health checks, contraception counselling, Implanon and Mirena procedures, fertility guidance, postnatal care, menopause symptom management, and mental health support. We can also arrange referrals to gynaecologists and other specialists when required.
Staying on top of your cervical screening is one of the best things you can do for your long-term health. If you’re due or overdue, book in with our team. Female GPs are available on request. We see patients from Glendale, Cardiff, Wallsend, Edgeworth, Cameron Park, and across the Lake Macquarie region. Bulk billing is available for eligible patients.
Children’s Health
Families in Glendale and the surrounding area trust our GPs to look after their children’s health from the newborn stage right through to the teenage years. We take a gentle, patient approach that helps kids feel at ease during their appointments.
Our children’s health services cover developmental milestone checks, childhood vaccinations aligned with the National Immunisation Program, diagnosis and management of common conditions like asthma, eczema, ear infections, and behavioural concerns, as well as referrals for allied health services including speech pathology and occupational therapy.
We also support new parents with postnatal check-ups, feeding guidance, and baby health assessments. Same-day appointments are available when your child is unwell, and walk-ins are welcome for urgent concerns. All children under 16 are bulk billed at The Doctors Glendale.
Antenatal Care (Shared Care)
Expecting a baby? The Doctors Glendale participates in antenatal shared care arrangements with John Hunter Hospital and other maternity units in the Hunter region. This means most of your routine pregnancy appointments can happen right here in Glendale, close to home and with a GP who gets to know you.
Throughout your pregnancy, your doctor will monitor both your health and your baby’s development, arrange blood tests and ultrasounds, screen for gestational diabetes, track blood pressure, and check in on your mental and emotional wellbeing. We also offer guidance on diet, exercise, and birth preparation.
For the best outcomes, we recommend booking your first antenatal visit early in pregnancy, ideally before the 10-week mark. This gives us time to set up your shared care plan and organise your first-trimester screening. All pregnancy-related GP consultations are bulk billed.
Mental Health
Mental health is a core part of overall wellbeing, and our GPs at The Doctors Glendale are here to help. We offer a safe, non-judgemental space to talk about what you’re going through, whether that’s anxiety, depression, stress, sleep difficulties, grief, or something else entirely.
If ongoing support would help, your GP can create a Mental Health Treatment Plan under Medicare, which provides access to subsidised sessions with a psychologist, counsellor, or other mental health professional. We can also discuss medication options, coping strategies, and connect you with local support services.
You don’t need to wait until things reach a crisis point to ask for help. If you’re finding things difficult, book an appointment and let’s work through it together. Urgent same-day appointments are available for mental health concerns. We see patients from Glendale, Cardiff, Edgeworth, Wallsend, and surrounding areas. Bulk billing is available for eligible patients.
Travel Health
Heading overseas? A pre-travel health consultation at The Doctors Glendale will help ensure you’re properly prepared and protected for your destination. Our GPs provide tailored advice based on where you’re going, how long you’ll be away, and your personal health history.
We administer travel vaccinations including hepatitis A and B, typhoid, and other destination-specific vaccines, and provide guidance on malaria prevention, food and water safety, insect-borne diseases, and jet lag management. If you need to carry prescription medication while travelling, we can prepare the necessary documentation.
Some travel vaccines need to be given well in advance, so we recommend scheduling your consultation at least 6 to 8 weeks before your departure date. Our clinic serves travellers from across Glendale, Cardiff, Lake Macquarie, and the wider Hunter region.
Immunisations (Adult & Child)
The Doctors Glendale is an approved immunisation provider, delivering vaccinations for patients of all ages in line with the National Immunisation Program (NIP) and additional schedules for travel, workplace, and high-risk groups.
For infants and children, we administer all scheduled vaccines from birth through adolescence. For adults, our services include annual flu shots, COVID-19 boosters, shingles vaccinations (Shingrix), pneumococcal vaccines, and catch-up programs for anyone who may have missed earlier doses.
All vaccinations are recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) to keep your records current and accessible. Flu vaccinations are available as walk-ins during the season. NIP-scheduled vaccines are bulk billed. We welcome patients from Glendale, Cardiff, Edgeworth, Cameron Park, and surrounding suburbs.
Implanon Insertion & Removal
Need a contraceptive implant fitted or replaced? The Doctors Glendale provides Implanon insertion and removal performed by trained and experienced GPs right here at our Lake Road clinic. Implanon is a small rod placed under the skin of your upper arm, offering reliable contraception for up to three years.
The insertion takes only a few minutes under local anaesthetic. Before proceeding, your GP will talk you through how Implanon works, whether it’s the right fit for your situation, possible side effects, and what to expect afterwards.
When your implant is due for replacement or you’d like it taken out, simply book an appointment. No specialist referral is necessary. Bulk billing is available for eligible patients.
Mirena Insertion & Removal
The Doctors Glendale offers in-clinic Mirena (hormonal IUD) insertion and removal, so you don’t need to go to hospital for this common procedure. Mirena provides effective long-term contraception for up to five years and is also widely used to treat heavy periods and endometriosis.
At your initial consultation, your GP will explain the procedure in detail, discuss whether Mirena is appropriate for your needs, and answer any questions you have. The insertion is carried out at our Glendale clinic and most patients resume their normal routine straight away.
If your Mirena is approaching its replacement date, or you’d like to have it removed, book a consultation with one of our GPs. No hospital referral is needed. The GP consultation is bulk billed; the Mirena device cost may apply separately.
Cervical Screening (Pap Smears)
Cervical screening saves lives, and at The Doctors Glendale we make the process as comfortable and straightforward as possible. Our GPs perform cervical screening tests (formerly Pap smears) in a private, respectful setting.
The National Cervical Screening Program recommends testing every five years for women and people with a cervix between the ages of 25 and 74. The screening detects the human papillomavirus (HPV), which, if left untreated, can develop into cervical cancer over time.
Whether it’s your first screening or you’re overdue, our team will guide you through each step. Female GPs are available by request. We see patients from Glendale, Cardiff, Wallsend, Edgeworth, and across the Lake Macquarie area. Bulk billing is available.
Chronic Disease Management
Managing a long-term health condition is easier with the right support. At The Doctors Glendale, our GPs develop personalised GP Management Plans (GPMP) and Team Care Arrangements (TCA) that give you access to Medicare-subsidised allied health services and coordinated ongoing care.
We work with patients living with a range of chronic conditions, including type 2 diabetes, asthma, COPD, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, chronic kidney disease, chronic pain, and persistent mental health conditions. Your GP will coordinate your care across allied health providers, monitor your progress, and adjust your plan as your needs change.
With a care plan in place, you can access subsidised appointments with physiotherapists, dietitians, diabetes educators, podiatrists, exercise physiologists, and psychologists. If you have a chronic condition and haven’t yet explored a management plan, talk to your GP at your next visit. All care plan consultations are bulk billed.
Employment Medicals
The Doctors Glendale conducts pre-employment and workplace medical assessments for job seekers and employers throughout the Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, and Hunter Valley regions. Our GPs deliver thorough, efficient assessments tailored to your industry’s requirements.
Assessments can include general fitness-for-work evaluations, hearing and vision testing, drug and alcohol screening, lung function tests, and musculoskeletal examinations. We issue clear, timely medical reports that satisfy employer and regulatory standards.
If you need a medical clearance for a new role, or you’re a local business looking for a dependable provider for your workforce health needs, get in touch. We can usually arrange appointments within a few business days.
WorkCover
Been hurt at work? The Doctors Glendale provides WorkCover consultations and injury management to help you recover and get back on your feet. Our GPs understand the claims process and will support you through every stage, from initial assessment to return-to-work planning.
We prepare certificates of capacity, organise referrals to physiotherapy or specialist care, communicate with your employer and insurer, and develop graduated return-to-work programs designed around your recovery. Our priority is getting you better as quickly and safely as possible.
If you’ve sustained a workplace injury or illness, it’s important to see a doctor promptly. Early treatment and documentation lead to better recovery outcomes. Walk-in and same-day appointments are available. We treat workers from across Glendale, Cardiff, Edgeworth, Wallsend, and the wider Hunter region.
Skin Cancer Checks
With Australia’s high UV exposure, regular skin checks are a vital part of preventive healthcare. The Doctors Glendale provides comprehensive skin cancer examinations carried out by GPs experienced in identifying suspicious moles, lesions, and sun damage.
Your skin check involves a thorough head-to-toe examination. Your GP will assess any spots or changes you’ve noticed, evaluate your personal risk factors including skin type, sun exposure history, and family history, and use dermoscopy where appropriate for a closer look. If further investigation is needed, we can perform a biopsy on-site or arrange a dermatologist referral.
We recommend yearly skin checks for all adults in our area, with more frequent monitoring for those at higher risk. Book your skin cancer screening at our Glendale clinic today. Bulk billing is available for eligible patients.
Minor Surgical Procedures
Our GPs at The Doctors Glendale carry out a variety of minor surgical procedures in-clinic, giving you a convenient local alternative to hospital outpatient departments. All procedures are performed in a clean, sterile environment under local anaesthetic.
Common procedures include excision of skin lesions, moles, and cysts, laceration repair and wound management, abscess drainage, ingrown toenail treatment, wart removal, and ear wax removal by syringing. Your GP will assess the area, explain your options, and in many cases can perform the procedure during the same visit or within the week.
If you have a lump, skin growth, or other concern that may benefit from a minor procedure, book a consultation with our team. Bulk billing may apply depending on the type of procedure.
Iron Infusions
For patients with iron deficiency that hasn’t improved with oral supplements, The Doctors Glendale provides iron infusion therapy on-site. Intravenous iron is a fast, effective way to restore your iron levels when tablets alone aren’t enough or aren’t well tolerated.
Iron deficiency is common across Australia, especially among women of reproductive age, expectant mothers, and those managing chronic health conditions. Symptoms often include persistent tiredness, shortness of breath, poor concentration, and dizziness. A simple blood test ordered by your GP will confirm whether an infusion is appropriate.
The infusion is administered at our Glendale clinic by our clinical team and usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes, with a short observation period afterwards. Your GP can arrange the referral during a standard consultation. The GP visit is bulk billed; infusion fees may vary.
Psychology
We have psychology services available at our Argenton clinic through LifeSense Psychology – Nicole Brown.
